How do you protect your baby from the cold to get out in winter

The walk? It's good for everyone, babies included, even when it's cold. Avoid outings only if the weather conditions are extreme or if temperatures drop drastically below zero. The same applies if your baby is cranky or in a feverish state.

Protecting Baby properly

Wind, rain... A toddler's fragile skin is easily irritated, protect it daily with a moisturizer. Against the cold, dress Baby using the principle of a thousand leaves: several layers of clothing provide better protection than one thick layer. Thick socks, gloves and hat, don't forget to protect the extremities.

Wearing and shared warmth

Placed against your chest, Baby benefits from your body heat, no need to cover him excessively. Wear a coat or a large waistcoat rather than a pilot suit which is difficult to modulate and which does not allow him to remain mobile, which is essential for him to fight against frostbite. Really practical, and you can find them at any price, the oversize coat or jacket will do the trick if you don't have one, otherwise an oversize coat or jacket will do the trick to keep Mum and Baby warm when worn against the cold. In this case, it is advisable to dress your toddler "like at home". Does one no longer cover a child carried in a dorsal position? No, the body heat is diffused in the same way. If your coat does not allow you to cover the baby carried on his back, why not use a small blanket or plaid to keep him warm!  In any case, be careful not to cover the baby completely and to leave his airways clear.

Accessories for your pram

The rain cover is a good means of protection against showers but also against the wind. The chancellor to keep baby warm in his hammock is more practical than a blanket. Favour a waterproof or water-repellent, machine-washable model. There are different warm and cooler models and it is best to consult the Tog number (when indicated) to get a precise idea. The Tog is a heat index, it informs you about the protection provided to the baby. From tog 4 upwards, the tog offers protection between 10° and - 10° C.

Hot or cold?

Baby seems to be covered and protected from the cold, but how can you make sure he is not cold? To get the best idea, place your hand on his neck, at the base of his neck, this is the part of his body which is the most revealing of his body temperature. If baby is sweating, you will feel it. Then you'll have to find out. If his neck is cold, it's better to cover him more.
