Aromatherapy for Women

How fragrant compounds can improve your mood.

Research has shown that fragrant compounds have a profound effect on our moods and behavior.

In one study, for example, agitated mice became calm when lavender and sandalwood oils were sprayed into their cages. Now researchers in Korea report that aromatherapy massage using lavender, chamomile, rosemary and lemon “exerts positive effects” on levels of anxiety and self-esteem for elderly women. Here are five of the most popular essential oils and their uses.

Essential Oil Properties
Lavender Balancing, calming
Eucalyptus Invigorating, cooling
Ylang Ylang Antidepressant
Peppermint Refreshing, cooling
Sandalwood Cooling, relaxing
